Brendan was a first time participant in the Tasmanian Gothic Short Script Challenge 2016.Brendan Crates is a Penguin boy who now make his home Launceston. He works in disability support but fancies himself as a little more of a creative. In 2015 his short film Playing Possum played at both the Scream in the Dark festival in Nebraska, Omaha and in the Horror Block/Rue Morgue online competition. His first comic was also published at the end of 2014 in DECAY #18. He worked with mainland artist Kat Young to create the story Adoption. One reviewer described how his “favourite would have to be Adoption. Katrina Young’s artwork with the gentle colour wash is a brilliant accompany to Brendan Crates story.”
