Horror Mashup

Horror Mashup

by Andrew Harper and Matt Warren

Hobart artists and performers Andrew Harper and Matt Warren present an AV performance of mashed up and remixed horror source material. Noisy imagery that betrays analogue wear like some forbidden bootleg and and distant reverberant sounds that hint at separate scenes being played out like fading memories that have merged.static4200X200
Harper and Warren both grew up during the early 1980s home video explosion, are both early horror cinephiles and taking conceptual cues from hauntology, montage/collage and Brion Gysin/William S. Burroughs inspired cutups, the pair will combine material from their own personal libraries to create a new collaborative piece.

Mixed and played together, this content will create unique combinations, strange juxtapositions and potentially new, unintended narratives. Images and sounds will overlap, sometimes in harmony sometimes with dissonance. The historical nature of much of the material along with the use of VHS tape and vinyl records will give an overall nostalgic quality to the piece, but the use of digital sound software and data projectors will allow the clarity and low-fi integrity of the sources to be fully realised.
