After she is betrayed and brutalized by one of her professors, medical student Mary Mason’s life takes a surprising turn as she becomes a sawbones for the local mob after she stumbles into a seedy burlesque bar looking for work. Simultaneously ‘Bloody Mary’ becomes a hit in the body-modification underground after she helps a woman become the ultimate living doll. Before long Mary finds herself becoming increasingly unhinged as the operations pile up and the surgeries begin to leave more marks on her than her so-called freakish clientele. American Mary worked its body mod magic on the festival circuit, picking up over 15 international awards including Best Picture at Screamfest, Toronto After Dark and Shudder Fest, and has arrived.

Bob, a cab-driving serial killer who stalks his prey on the city streets alongside his reluctant protégé Tim, who must make a life or death choice between following in Bob’s footsteps or breaking free from his captor.“Not for the faint of heart or the weak of spirit, and probably not even for fans of more traditional horror films… this is a grenade lobbed into a genre that desperately needs its bones rattled.”-Flick Philosopher“Impressively directed and superbly written, this is a chilling, thought-provoking horror movie with a pair of terrific performances by Vincent D’Onofrio and newcomer Eamon Farren.”-View LondonJennifer Lynch will be present for a post-screening Q&A.Saturday 9 March, 9.30 pmPeacock Theatre, Salamanca Arts Centre$13 / $10 concessionFestival-pass holders pay nothing but are encouraged to reserve tickets. Two FBI agents attempt to clarify the murders occurring in a desolate region. They approach the witnesses of the latest incident with the help of the local police. All of them hide something and all have wildly different stories to tell.“In this long-time-coming sophomore film, Lynch exercises powers of her own. She gets repellant, seductive, sympathetic performances from her actors. Ormond and Pullman are frightfully good at teasing intimacy.”-Denver Post“Beneath the film’s surface appeal as a twisty, morbidly funny freak-out lies a weightier theme on the resilience of children.”-Village Voice“Some will be unable to appreciate the movie’s savagery on any level. Others will find it affecting and uncompromising, the kind of movie that plunges you into a nightmare and ratchets up the intensity until you’re grateful for a moment’s respite.”-San Fransisco ExaminerJennifer Lynch will introduce the film on 9 March.Saturday 9 March & Sunday 10 March, at 2.30 pmThis screening is at MONA Cinema and is not included in the SWMF festival pass.Bookings can be made via MONA reception on (03) 62779971 on online here.MONA tickets are $15 Full and $12 Concession.
