Viscera write-up in The Guardian

One of the annoying things about being located in Tasmania is that we’re quite a long way from places like Hollywood, USA… which means we unfortunately weren’t able to make it the Viscera Film Festival kick-off ‘bloody carpet’ on 7 July.

But we love this festival and it’s exciting to see it going from strength to strength.

Here’s a write-up of the event by Lisa Marks in The Guardian.

Mary Lambert (Pet Sematary and Pet Sematary II) was one of the event’s special guests. She’s quoted in the piece:

I have a dark, cynical view of humanity, and making scary movies has made that clear to me that I’m a little different from other people. The idea that women are fearful creatures who can’t handle dark ideas is just wrong. I love the fact that this festival showcases short films because it makes it accessible to younger film-makers. It says, if you have an idea, even if it’s not socially acceptable, it’s OK to make a movie about that, and so I hope this festival encourages them to fulfill their creativity.

Stranger With My Face to return in 2013

In honour of Friday the 13th, an announcement….

Okay, so being busy with filmmaking, life and other pesky things of that nature, we haven’t updated this website for a while… since the festival in fact.

SWMF friend Mel Cooper is pleased. Visit her at www.studioblood.com

But there’s so much happening in the world of female-focused horror these days (and in the genre in general) that it’s difficult to stay away. Expect to find some random musings and recommendations here over the next few months.

The bigger news is that… yes, we have decided to go ahead and do Stranger With My Face again in 2013!

You might have guessed this if you’re in touch with us through Twitter or Facebook. I mean, why else would we bother to keep up with social media?

But it kind of is a big deal, because it’s going to involve a whole lot of time, hard work and planning. It’s all the support we got the first time around that makes it seem achievable.

That support ranged from the many friends and volunteers who donated their time and expertise… to more formal assistance from Monster Pictures, Wide Angle Tasmania, Salamanca Arts Centre, Adam Walker Film (and numerous other sponsors)… as well as the Viscera Film Festival and Women in Horror Month.

We’ve already got some great films in mind, and lots of stuff you will definitely be excited about. Just you wait…
